Donnie Walker, Jon Burden, Judy Brown, and Marv Walker are Carefree Highway.  From Nelson, BC, this group of longtime musical friends share their love of Gordon Lightfoot’s songs.

Donnie formed the band for Canada Day 2026 with brother Marv on drums and Judy Brown on bass, and now, with Jon Burden singing and playing guitar, this group of experienced musicians celebrate Gordon Lightfoot’s timeless music.

Don Walker

Don Walker is a veteran drummer, strummer and singer with extensive experience touring with Royalty Recording Artists Gustafson, Fjellgaard, Fustukian, Honky Tonk Heroes, Wilf Carter, Al Cherney, Lionel Rault and many more.  Music took Don to over 100 countries, living in the USA and Europe before returning to BC to play with Vancouver and Nelson based bands including Roxy, Son of John, Holly and Jon and Hurrie Brown and Walker Trio.

Jon Burden

LEAD VOCALS, LEAD GUITAR

Jon Burden is a Canadian guitarist, singer-songwriter, and blues/roots musician based in the West Kootenay region of British Columbia near Nelson and Slocan. Known for his pure, guitar tone, soulful slide work, and rootsy songwriting, Burden has spent decades performing across Western Canada as a solo artist, bandleader, and as part of the acclaimed blues duo Holly & Jon alongside his daughter, bassist and vocalist Holly Hyatt. Jon has also performed with many international blues artists and has several CD releases including “Tales from the Alluvial” (Solo Album) and several with his daughter Holly.

Judy Brown

Judy Brown is a Canadian roots singer-songwriter and guitarist/bassist who began her career in Edmonton, performed in Toronto clubs and festivals, and now calls Nelson home. Her 2018 debut album, Say It, was recorded in Toronto with award-winning collaborators Gary Kendall and Teddy Leonard. She continues to perform with her Kootenay-based band and her Ontario recording band, her song “Roberta” was nominated for a 2019 Kootenay Music Award and “Free Range Man” is often heard on local and national radio stations.

Marv Walker

Marv Walker has been drumming in the Kootenays since the 1990s, after playing with Vancouver acts including Powder Blues, Jim Byrnes, The Bel Airs, Billy Cowsill and Hans Stamer.  He began in Edmonton as the original drummer for k.d. lang, and performed with Bo Diddley, Tim Williams and Pinetop Perkins. In Nelson, he formed What It Is and Mystery Train, ran nightclubs, and became known in musician circles as the unofficial mayor of Nelson.
